FAQ

  • What is loft boarding?
Definition: Loft boarding involves installing a sturdy wooden platform within your loft space to create usable storage. This typically involves: Strong beams: Supporting the floor of the platform. Loft boards: Creating a solid, even surface for storage. Access: A safe and convenient ladder for reaching the boarded area.
  • What are the benefits of loft boarding?
Increased storage space: Significantly expands your storage capacity for seasonal items, boxes, luggage, and more. Improved organisation: Creates a dedicated and accessible space for storing items neatly and efficiently. Reduced clutter: Helps declutter your home by providing a designated area for items that are not used frequently. Increased property value: A well-boarded loft can enhance the perceived value of your property.
  • How much will it cost to board my loft?
All loft boarding is charged by the square meter, so it all depends on how big or small your loft is. You do not have to board the entire loft if you want to create a storage space on a budget. Prices start from £599.00, which is around 5m2 with a ladder and light. Most customers will spend around £1800.00 for a comfortable amount of storage space and and a few extras.
  • Do I need planning permission?
No, Loft Boarding for storage purposes do not require planning permission. However, if you are planning on using the loft as a bedroom or living space you will require planning permission and will need to consult your local planning authority to ensure your specific project does not impede the law.
  • Can I do it myself?
DIY is possible if you have DIY experience and the necessary tools, you can attempt loft boarding yourself. But since we do this every day, we are very efficient and can complete the work in a fraction of the time it would take the average confident DIYer and to an excellent standard.
  • What should I consider before boarding my loft?
Loft size and shape: Assess the available space and determine the most efficient layout for boarding. Ceiling height: Ensure sufficient headroom for comfortable access and storage. Loft access: Determine the best location and type of access (ladder or staircase). Budget: Set a realistic budget that suits your purse. These are all things that our experienced loft surveyors will look at with you.
  • My house is old and may contain asbestos
If your property was built before the year 2000, it is highly likely to have some asbestos materials somewhere in the fabric of the property and likely to have something in the loft space. An Asbestos survey may need to be carried out depending on the scope of work, which would need to be carried out by a qualified asbestos surveyor. We can deal with all this, but will require a short visit before any work can be carried out.
